Used to be, years ago that all toilets were the same height – about 15 inches tall.

But today, toilets are 17 to 19 inches tall and this new height is known as the “comfort height” or “chair height” or “right height”. This new height is compliant with ADA (American Disabilities Act) standards.

This is actually very good for older adults (there are 10,000 people in the USA turning 65 years old every single day) – so having these taller toilets will make it much easier for them to get up off of it.

There are some toilets that are as tall as 21 inches in height.

Now these new standards may not be the best height for you, of course. Only you can determine that. But if you prefer the older standard of 15 inches height, then you can certainly purchase those toilets for your bathroom.

How Do You Raise The Height Of The Toilet?

The best and easiest way to raise the height of the toilet is to purchase an elevated toilet seat. These replace your existing toilet seat. There are many different varieties to choose from.
