Where Is The Main Water Shutoff Valve Located?
In many homes here in Georgia, the shutoff valve for the main water line is oftentimes located in the basement or the crawlspace. But it could also be located in the garage or some other part of the house.
If you’ve recently moved into your home you can check the property inspection report to find where it’s located. Of course, if you can be with the inspector as he/she performs his work you’ll be able to ask where it’s located.
What Does The Main Shutoff Valve Look Like?
Generally there are 2 different types of shut off valves.
- A Ball Valve – this looks like a lever.
- A Gate Valve – this has a round handle.
To shut the water supply off to your house you turn the valve to close it down.
Once it’s closed you will not have any water supplied to your home so if you do have to close it because of a leak or other problem, we strongly recommend that you contact your plumber right away to fix the issue.
